In Cilento there are a wide range of historical areas from the UNESCO list of world heritage.
A few kilometers (35km) north of Pioppi is the historical area Paestum from the 7th century BC. This is one of the most important archaeological sites in the south of Italy, and it stems from the Greek era of colonization. Here you can find no less than three very well preserved temples in Doric style, a roman forum, and one of the best conserved painted tombs in the world.
In the opposite direction, only 5 kilometres from Pioppi, is Velia, founded around year 530 BC. It was the centre of the pre-Socratic Eleatic school of philosophy, from which came for instance Parmenides and Zeno. One hour by train away, you find the famous historical city of Pompeii, which was once completely buried by an eruption from the volcano Vesuvius, in 79 AD.
Another interesting place to see is the Certosa di Padula, the biggest monastery in Italy, founded by Tommaso S. Severino in 1306.
You can visit these sites at any time during your stay, and we are happy to arrange the appropriate transportation for you.
